Within the MBP\u00a0<\/span>Specialist in Scouting and Match\u00a0Analysis\u00a0Course<\/span><\/a>, different concepts are analysed that help teams\u00a0to know more information about their\u00a0opponent and, in turn, be more prepared for their\u00a0upcoming game.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of these approaches is the Structural Analysis. This contains all the information that can be obtained about the opposition without seeing them play, giving the staff a first idea about ‘what to expect’ from the opponent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0the structural analysis, there are four points to focus on:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Official\u00a0Squad<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Primary\u00a0System\u00a0of\u00a0Play<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Variations\u00a0and\u00a0Alternatives<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Alternative\u00a0Systems\u00a0of\u00a0Play<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    These 4 mentioned aspects, as well as being\u00a0simple\u00a0to analyse and providing the first overview of the opponent, will also help the coaching staff to anticipate the possible structural changes\u00a0and\u00a0changes\u00a0of positions that the opponent may make. This information allows the staff to control some of the uncertainty involved in the game.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    For example, analysing the opponent’s official squad will help the staff to know which players are suspended or injured, and also to be aware of which player profiles will be available for the match.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In reference to the primary playing\u00a0system and\u00a0knowing the possible variations of the structures, the coaching staff will be able to anticipate some of the opponent’s behaviours and the zones that they will tend to occupy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    From understanding\u00a0the variations and alternatives\u00a0\u2013 the trend of the team\u2019s\u00a0substitutions\u00a0–\u00a0the coaching staff will have an idea about which player profile is usually introduced depending on the possible scenarios that occur in the match.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Finally, an analysis of the alternative playing system, in addition to knowing the possible structural modifications the opponent will use, will help the staff to prepare a possible ‘plan B’ according to the opponent’s other systems. The aim of this is to ‘avoid unexpected game contexts’.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In conclusion,\u00a0a\u00a0structural analysis is the starting point when carrying out a\u00a0thorough\u00a0analysis of an opponent. Even if this first step does not delve into any\u00a0in-depth\u00a0elements of the game, the coaching staff will obtain valuable information that will help them to get a first idea of how to approach the match plan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
